FAQ
Things You Need To Know
AskHAY is purely a peer support service.
Please note that your buddy is simply a friend for you to talk to and someone for you to connect with.
AskHAY and it’s buddies are not professional medical guidance or counselling. If you feel you need professional medical help please contact your local doctor and/or NHS board.
How do I become a buddy?
Sign up through the Become A Buddy page, complete a form telling us all about you, how you would like to communicate with your buddy, upload a quick video introducing yourself and we will do the rest!
What information of mine will be shared?
The only thing initially shared with any prospective buddies will be your introductory video, everything else, including your contact details, is kept private until you give us permission to share these with your buddy for communication purposes only.
I’m under 18, can I sign up?
Absolutely! We encourage anyone of any age to sign up. We only ask that under 18’s ask permission of a parent/guardian first and provide us with their name & email address so we can confirm this has been granted for safeguarding purposes.
How often should my buddy & I talk?
This is entirely up to you both depending on what you are both comfortable with. This can be agreed upon when you have been paired up, we do encourage you to reach out to each other at least twice per month though.
My child would like to sign up, how do I know they will be safe?
All under 18’s will only be paired up with other under 18’s. Where we can, we will strive to ensure young people of the same age are paired up. Parents/guardians can also have their email address as the form of contact between their child & their buddy.
